I talk a lot about the fear of divorce vs. the desire to marry for young adults in STARLET’S RUN. Teens/college students fall deeply in love but society deems their desire to get married as immature and their love “doomed.” Perhaps the meddling from others is what condemns the relationship, not the lack of commitment to each other?
The character, Manuel, commits to Liana regardless of her health status. He’s a smart jock who is tremendously dedicated and loyal. She is more affected by what she “should” do socially. She’s an introvert in an extrovert’s world.
I liked developing the indecision between the two young adults, capturing that innate contradiction between have to, want to, choose to, and should do when it comes to love and marriage.
